Environmental Compliance Support at Dover AFB, DE
MS2 provided environmental support services to support 436 Civil Engineering Squadron at Dover AFB with their environmental compliance program. Services consisted of:
- Commercial gate relocation feasibility study
- Slope stabilization of St. Jones riverbank
- St. Jones riverbank vegetation assessment
- Design and installation of airfield storm water control sluice gates
- Environmental area development planning for 10 areas
MS2 was responsible for planting shoreline stabilization vegetation in two areas along the St, Jones River, which forms the western boundary of Dover AFB. MS2 planted red chokeberry (Aronia arbutifolia), Northern Bayberry (Myrica pensylvanica), and Southern Arrowwood (Viburnum dentatum) in each of two stabilization areas. MS2 documented that the regulatory survivability success rate for the shoreline stabilization plantings of 85% had been achieved.
For the storm water sluice gate upgrade project, MS2 evaluated the feasibility of remote-operation gate technologies, selected the most feasible technology, and constructed three new sluice gates on the culvert headwalls at three locations. MS2 also removed the original manually-operated gates and wired and installed the electrical and telemetry components at each location to allow for remote opening and closing of the new gates from the Base fire station.
