Horticulture/Greenhouse Addition, Milwaukee Area Technical College, Mequon, WI
OTIE provided plumbing and fire protection design, structural, site/civil, and HVAC engineering services for replacement greenhouses and support spaces on MATC’s Mequon campus. The project required demolition of a 40-year-old teaching facilities and replacement with state-of-the-art greenhouses and head-houses. The new facilities incorporate technologies such as rainwater harvesting, filtration, and UV; venting; freeze protection; computer-controlled shading, ventilation, and irrigation; and emergency backup heating.
OTIE designed and supervised construction of new, modern greenhouse with computer-controlled irrigation system, greenhouse venting, freeze-protected heating and multi-stage cooling systems. We designed a rainwater harvest storage system, with filtration and UV treatment system, to provide the greenhouse irrigation system with natural rainwater when it is available in lieu of municipal tap water. Greenhouse has computer-controlled sun shades; ventilation systems; operable building vent panels; evaporative cooling system; freeze-protected. Under-bench heating system; and emergency powered back-up space heating systems.
