Demolition of Buildings 780 and 3457, NAS Pensacola
Under a design/bid/build, stand-alone contract, MS2 managed the demolition and asbestos abatement of Buildings 780 and the demolition of Building 3457 at NAS Pensacola, FL. MS2 recycled all concrete and metal waste from the demolition. A post-demolition soil stabilization plan was implemented to grade and replant the area following demolition activities. Work included:
- Demolition of Buildings 780 and 3457, included utility termination, demolition, debris removal, site grading, and soil stabilization
- Asbestos abatement in Building 780 included gypsum board, hot water piping insulation, floor tile, and mastic
- Performed site grading and gravel backfill for proper drainage
- Soil stabilization using hydro-seeding
This competitively-bid construction project demonstrates MS2’s ability and experience level to manage and coordinate multiple types of modernizing construction on two different buildings (780 and 3457) at NAS Pensacola including demolition. Building 780 is partially located in Installation Restoration Site 25 and wholly within Land Use Control (LUC) Area 02. Workers on this site whose tasks required actively disturbing soil were required to meet training and certification requirements specified in 29 CFR 1910.120 for working on an EPA National Priority List (NPL) site.
MS2 coordinated with the base BOS contractor for utility outage requests to minimize any service disruption to other buildings including power, gas, fire alarm, communications, sewer, and water during utility disconnects and termination. MS2 also coordinated with the local telephone company to disconnect and terminate all telephone services in such a way to minimize the impact to other buildings, as Building 780 was the hub for telephone service for several nearby buildings.
